Age Calculator - Free Online Age Calculator

Our online age calculator is a free tool that tells you your exact age from a date of birth, broken down into years, months, weeks, days, hours and minutes, plus a live countdown to your next birthday. Nothing to install, nothing to sign up for. Just enter a date, press Calculate Age, and read the results.

Use it as a birthday calculator, a "how old am I" checker, an age-on-a-future-date planner, or to figure out a pet's or a project's exact age in days. The calculator works on desktop, tablet and phone with the same local-only engine that powers our countdown timer and alarm clock.

Key features

  • Precise to the day (or the minute): Leave the birth time blank for a standard day-based age, or fill it in to get hours and minutes alive.
  • Multiple views at once: Years, years-months-days, months-days, weeks-days, total days, total hours and total minutes, all computed from the same two inputs.
  • Next birthday countdown: See exactly how many days remain until your next birthday (or milestone, like 10,000 days alive).
  • Age on any date: The "Age on" field defaults to today but accepts any date up to the year 9999, which covers milestones, anniversaries and retirement planning.
  • Built-in validation: The form stops you from entering a birth date that's after the reference date, and vice versa, with inline messages so you know exactly what's wrong.
  • Born on which weekday: The result shows the day of the week you were born, the kind of small fact that's surprisingly fun to share.
  • Completely private: Nothing is sent to a server. All calculation happens in your browser; closing the tab clears every field.
  • Dark, light & 6 color themes: Your choice carries across every tool on the site and survives a browser restart.
  • Works offline: Once the page is loaded, the arithmetic happens on your own device, so the calculator works with the connection off.

How to calculate your age

Step 1: Enter your date of birth

Type a date directly (DD/MM/YYYY or MM/DD/YYYY depending on your locale) or click the calendar icon to pick one. The default is January 1, 2000; overwrite it with your own birth date. Any value from January 1, 0001 up to today is accepted.

Step 2: Add a birth time (optional)

If you know the hour and minute you were born, type it into the Birth Time field. Leaving it blank is fine, and the calculator simply skips the hours and minutes breakdown. Filling it in unlocks exact hours and minutes alive, computed from midnight of your birth date plus the time you entered.

Step 3: Pick a reference date

The Age on field defaults to today's date so you see your age right now. Change it to any date after your birthday to see how old you'll be then, which helps when you're planning a 30th, a 50th, or a 10,000-days-alive party.

Step 4: Press Calculate Age

The result panel appears below the button with your age headline, a grid of alternative views (years-months-days, total weeks, total hours, etc.), and the number of days until your next birthday. Change any input and press Calculate again to refresh.

Reset to defaults

The circular arrow next to the reference date resets the form: birth date goes back to January 1, 2000, birth time is cleared, and the reference date snaps to today.

How age is actually calculated

Age sounds simple. Subtract the dates. It gets tricky the moment you notice that months have different lengths and leap years exist. We use the standard calendar-age method:

  1. Start with reference year − birth year.
  2. If the reference month/day is earlier in the year than the birth month/day, subtract one year (because the birthday hasn't happened yet in the reference year).
  3. Compute the leftover months by comparing reference month to birth month, borrowing from years where needed.
  4. Compute the leftover days using the length of the previous month in the reference year, which handles leap Februaries and 30-vs-31-day months correctly.

So someone born on July 4, 2002 evaluated on April 24, 2026 is 23 years, 9 months and 20 days old, not 24, because July 4 hasn't arrived in 2026 yet. Total days, weeks, hours and minutes are computed separately by taking the straight millisecond difference between the two timestamps.

When to use an age calculator

Filling out forms accurately

Official forms, visa applications, insurance, health assessments and school enrollments often ask for your age on a specific date, not today. Setting the reference date to that exact day gives you a precise, unambiguous number.

Planning milestone birthdays

Want to throw a 10,000-days-alive party? A "half-birthday"? A celebration on the day you hit 1 billion seconds alive (roughly 31.7 years)? Set the reference date forward until the total-days or total-hours figure hits your target.

Pet and project ages

The calculator doesn't care whether the birth date belongs to a person, a dog, a car or a codebase. Use it to find the exact age of a pet for vet records, the running time of a project, or how long ago a product launched.

Retirement & benefit planning

Many pensions and benefits kick in at a specific age on a specific date. Set your DOB, set the reference date to the benefit's effective date, and confirm you meet the threshold.

Historical and genealogical research

Working out how old a historical figure was at a key event (or how old an ancestor was when they emigrated) is much faster than doing the arithmetic by hand, especially across centuries where the leap-year rules get fiddly.

Trivia & curiosity

Find out which weekday you were born, how many weeks you've been alive, or exactly how many hours you've been on Earth if you know your birth time. It's a fun moment of self-accounting, and a single click to share the result.

Age calculator vs birthday calculator vs days calculator

  • An age calculator returns your age as a structured answer: years, months, days. This page.
  • A birthday calculator usually focuses on the countdown to the next birthday or the weekday of a future birthday. That info is included here at the bottom of the result.
  • A days-between-dates calculator is the raw building block: it returns the total difference in days and ignores the years/months view. We expose that number as "Total days" in the result grid.

In short: if you want your age the way a driver's license states it (years, months, days), stay on this page. If you only care about the raw number of days, glance at the Total days card.

Tips & tricks

  • Don't guess the birth time unless you know it. The hours-and-minutes figures are only meaningful if the time is real. Leave the field blank otherwise, since the day-level answer is already very precise.
  • Use a future reference date. Want to know your age on your next work anniversary or the day your kid starts school? Type that date into the reference field.
  • Share the weekday fact. The "Born on a …" line is the kind of trivia people love to learn and rarely know off the top of their head.
  • Check leap-year birthdays carefully. If your birthday is February 29, the next-birthday countdown in non-leap years targets March 1 as the closest celebration date, so adjust to February 28 if you prefer.
  • Bookmark the page. A quick age check is one tab away, with no app to install and no account.

Frequently asked questions

Is the age calculator free?

Yes. The calculator is free, needs no account, and never asks for anything beyond the dates you type.

How is age calculated?

We compute the calendar difference between your date of birth and the reference date, adjusting for whether your birthday has already passed in the reference year. For example, someone born on July 4, 2002 evaluated on April 24, 2026 is 23 years, 9 months and 20 days old, not 24, because July 4 has not yet arrived in 2026.

Do I have to enter a birth time?

No. The birth time field is optional and defaults to blank. Leaving it empty gives you an age down to the day. Filling it unlocks exact hours and minutes alive.

Can I calculate my age on a future date?

Yes. The "Age on" field defaults to today but accepts any date after your date of birth, which helps when planning a milestone birthday or anniversary.

Does the age calculator count leap years correctly?

Yes. Our calculation uses the browser's native date engine, which tracks leap years, month lengths and daylight saving changes automatically.

Is my data stored anywhere?

No. Nothing is sent to a server and nothing is stored. The entire calculation happens in your browser; closing the tab clears everything.

Does the age calculator work offline?

Yes. The calculation is pure arithmetic done on your own device, so the page works fine with the connection off.
